Hull & East Riding Amos Burn Memorial Blitz

Sunday 23rd November 2025

15-Round Blitz Tournament – FIDE and ECF rated – one section

First prize £200! Total prize money £775

Amos Burn was born in Hull on New Year’s Eve, 1848. He left Hull as a teenager to join his brother in a merchant company in Liverpool. He died on 25th November 1925. He had had an outstanding chess career and was for many years the strongest player in Britain. Indeed, in the 1890s, he was arguably second only to Steinitz amongst the world’s élite. This year is the centenary of his death. This tournament is part of a programme of commemoration, ‘Remembering Amos’
