Chess-Results and Pairings
The Winner of the U11 championship section will receive ‘The Ramsay Cup’ which they can hold on to for one year (please return to Mrs Billington-Phillips in time for her to present again at this event 18th February 2024) and engrave it with their name which will be seen by everyone in future years.
No player may win more than one prize. In the three junior sections the winners, in the event of a tie for first place, will be split according to tie break. The winner after tie breaks will be awarded the Champion’s cup/ rosette, but in the U11 section the prize money will be split among all tying players.
It is recommended that all players in all sections record their games, scoresheets and pencils will be available to use. If you are unable to record, then there is a great video on how to here: "https://www.chesskid.com/videos/how-to-keep-score-algebraic-notation"
If a player wishes to be considered for selection for a Wey Valley, Surrey County Team they should enter the correct championship section (U11/ U9) regardless of what their ECF rating is or if they do not have one.
Apologies for not being in touch with the selected Wey Valley, Surrey County Squads, but we will be in touch by email about this ASAP. Just to let you know you have NOT missed our email!
If a player would like to play to gain experience, try a tournament for their first time, are new to chess, have not played much chess, are a beginner they should enter the ‘Minor’ section, unless they are rated above 850 ECF in which case they are ‘too strong’ for the Minor section and will have to play in a different section.
Contact details will be stored on a computer for sending out details of future events organised by www.chessentriesforall.com.

Please note: No entries will be accepted on the day!
Please note: We estimate Minor and U9 sections will be completed by 2pm!!
- Times below will be kept to except for in the junior sections when play will continue for the next round fifteen minutes after the current round ends for all competitors. This means that the U9 and/ or the Minor sections may finish all their games by 13:30 and be able to go unless they have won a prize. Prizes will be presented in their playing room about 15 minutes after the last games in their section/ room have ended and following this players of said section/ room will be able to leave.
- The U11 may take longer to play their games, but the same system will apply, the next round will begin fifteen minutes after all games in the U11 section have completed and prize giving will be in their playing room or next door fifteen minutes after all competitors have completed their fifth game.
- As each section will be played in a separate classroom, competitors can come and go in between games without disturbing the other players still playing their previous round. So, as we have tried to explain above those younger less experienced players whose games are over quickly will have only a short break before the next one, therefore, making their whole day much shorter.
Arrival From 09:30 Round 1 10:00 Round 2 11:45 Round 3 13:20 Round 4 14:55 Round 5 16:30 Prize Giving (Approx.) 18:00 Time Control:

- Players' ratings will be determined by using (in order) ECF Rapid/ ECF Standard/ FIDE Rapid/ FIDE Standard. Unrated players must provide evidence for the organisers to assess their playing strength and any previous known rating must be declared (players who have never been rated do not need to).
- If possible, the most up to date Rating List will be used to determine a player's rating. For players who do not appear in the January List, other lists may be used at the discretion of the organisers.
- Rating Information - It is a condition of entry that players agree to their rating information being published on FIDE and the ECF websites.
