The 3rd Torquay Riviera Chess Congress
will be held on

Saturday 30th August to Friday 5th September 2025


At the TLH Carlton Hotel, Falkland Road,Torquay TQ2 5JJ

New this year, all sections will be FIDE rated, 7 round afternoon Open and U1750 sections and 6 round morning U2000 and U1700 sections. Time control 90 min + 30 sec move. There is a £10 discount if you enter both a morning and an afternoon tournament.

Note: Unrated players in the rated sections are only eligible to win 50% of any prize money
No competitor may win more than one prize.
If there are insufficient entries in any section then two sections may be merged, prizes will remain the same.


Entry Fees All entrants must be ECF Gold members or member of other national federation. ECF Bronze members must pay £15.00 extra to upgrade to Gold. Open £58 (7 rounds) U1750 £58 (7 rounds) U2000 £50 (6 rounds) U1700 £50 (6 rounds) You may deduct £10 from each entry if entering two tournaments.

Mobile phones must be switched off in the playing area
FIDE Rules of Chess apply and the Arbiters decision is final. Default time 30 minutes

All games will be ECF and FIDE standard play rated and ratings published on the ECF/FIDE0 websites. Unless informed otherwise the organisers may use photos taken at the event for publicity purposes.

Venue

The TLH Carlton Hotel is easy to find, being in the TLH complex of hotels, entrance and car park in Falkland Road.Please note: Car parking is free for hotel residents who have booked direct with the hotel, otherwise it is £10 per day. The playing room is the Madison Suite
Smoking is not permitted anywhere on the premises.

ANY COVID RESTRICTIONS IN FORCE AT THE TIME OF THE CONGRESS MUST BE ADHERED TO. PLEASE DO NOT COME IF YOU ARE SHOWING ANY SYMPTOMS OF COVID.

Missing players will be defaulted after 30 minutes from the designated start time of a round.
One half point bye may be taken in rounds 1-6 in the Open/U1750 and rounds 1-5 in the U2000/U1700.

Ratings

The July 2025 ECF standard list will be used for entry/eligibility purposes, August 2025 ratings will be used for pairings and determining rating prizes. Other lists may be used at the organisers discretion. Players without a grade must give full information regarding playing strength, including their best previous results and/or their highest grade. The organisers reserve the right to transfer entrants to another section.

Rate of Play and Pairings

All games must be completed in 90 minutes plus a 30 second increment per move for each player.

The tournaments will be paired using Swiss Manager computer pairings. Pairings and results will be published on www.chess-results.com

Conditions

The organisers reserve the right to:
  • Transfer entrants between sections
  • Withhold prizes from ungraded players if they play in sections below their known strength
  • Redistribute in whole or in part a prize won by a competitor who has won or shared another prize
  • Take any other measures deemed necessary to ensure the smooth running of the congress
