ECF Membership Requirement

As this is a rated event, all players must hold Gold membership of the English Chess Federation at the time of the event.

You can obtain or renew your membership at www.englishchess.org.uk . Gold membership is free for the first year, but please ensure your membership is current

Rate of Play

You will have 20 minutes on the clock (don't worry if you haven't used a clock before - everything will be explained!) The tournament is run on the same lines as the Megafinals which some of the players will already have experience of.

Prizes

There will be prizes in the form of trophies, medals, and certificates. All children that enter will receive a certificate.

Conditions of Entry

  • All players must be eligible for their chosen section based on age as of 31st August.
  • Gold membership of the English Chess Federation is required at the time of the event.
  • Entry fees are non-refundable unless the event is cancelled or exceptional circumstances apply.
  • Organisers reserve the right to adjust pairings, sections, or prizes depending on entry numbers.
  • Players must follow tournament rules and respect the decisions of the organisers.
  • If you are more than 20 minutes late for the first round and have not contacted us, your child will be forfeited from the rest of the tournament.
  • In the event that two or more players finish with identical scores, the following tiebreak system will be used to determine prize distribution: Direct Encounter – The result of the game(s) played between the tied players will be considered first. Buchholz System – If the direct encounter does not resolve the tie, the Buchholz score (sum of opponents' scores) will be used as the secondary tiebreak.
  • All children must be supervised by a responsible adult when outside the playing hall. The organisers are not responsible for your children during the event. A separate room will be available for parents and guardians to sit between rounds.
  • Photos may be taken during the event for use on social media, in local newspapers, or other publicity. Please let us know in advance if you don’t want your child included.
  • If your child is unwell at the time of the event, please do not attend. This helps protect the health and wellbeing of all participants. If illness prevents attendance, please contact the organisers as soon as possible. A refund will be available.
  • If your child needs any extra support or adjustments, please contact us before the event so we can help.
  • By entering this tournament, you agree that your child`s games may be submitted to the English Chess Federation for rating purposes
  • For safeguarding reasons, parents and guardians are not permitted to take photos or videos inside the playing hall, or from outside looking into the playing hall through doors or windows.
