NEJCA is pleased to announce this year's Steve Sawaryn and David Burke Memorial chess tournament, 2024. This event is open to all young people attending school in Scotland. The player’s current (live) grade on the Chess Scotland Allegro list will be used as a guide to what section should be entered. New players will be added to the list based on the details they supply.

All games will be graded on the Chess Scotland Allegro list.

Tournaments in five groups

Primary Minor (this year's U300 is sponsored by SJC.

Primary Major,

Secondary Major,

Primary Premium (David Burke Memorial trophy) and

Secondary Premium (Steve Sawaryn Memorial trophy)

There will be prizes for winners of all groups.

Groups may be merged or split based on the number of entries

20 mins + 5 sec increment per move per player Premium (Advanced), Major (Intermediate)

Or 25 min per player Minor (Novice)

At least 5 rounds of games.

Please add your child's School name and Year in the input section within the entry form

Secondary Premium (Advanced) - any Secondary school pupil graded 750 or above

Primary Premium (Advanced) - any Primary school pupil graded 750 or above

Secondary Major (Intermediate) - any Secondary pupil graded below 750 (including Ungraded)

Primary Major (Intermediate) - any Primary school pupil graded below 750 (including Ungraded)

Primary Minor (Novice) - Primary school pupils who are ungraded or graded below 300 in the Chess Scotland allegro list

New/novice players are encouraged to enroll in the Minor (NOVICE) or Major (INTERMEDIATE) section.

Please use the online entry page ('Enter' tab above) to add your entry, then use the Pay button to pay by Paypal. Entries will be automatically entered onto the Entries page when the payment has been accepted.

There is no fee for participants who claim free school meals. If you wish to claim free entry, please fill out the form and, instead of pressing the pay button at the end and let us know via the contact page that you have filled out the form.

Once successful, the player's name will be displayed on the 'Entrants' list on this website (Congress.org.uk).

Please ignore the FIDE details requested on the entry form. These details are not required.

Conditions for entry:

The organizers reserve the right to:

1. Enforce anti-cheating rules.

2. Merge tournaments into one if there is an insufficient entry.

3. Transfer entrants between groups as per their ratings.

4. Take measures deemed necessary to ensure smooth running of the event.

5. Juniors must obtain the permission of a parent/guardian before playing.

6. Primary school children must be accompanied by an adult. One adult can be responsible for eight children.

7. All data will be held in compliance with the Chess Scotland Data Protection policy.
