A Major section for U12-U18 with a rating up to 2000 ECF, with a prize fund of £200 and games will be played on liveboards and possibly broadcast live to the internet:

* Top Girl Prizes require a minimum of four girls in the section to guarantee that section's girls prize to be awarded. This is subject to overall number of entries.

U12, U10 and U8 sections with fewer than four girls may change the girls' first prize to a gold medal.

ECF Pay to play fee

Bronze or none members of the English Chess Federation (ECF) pay an additional £3. You can see the ECF Membership and Pay to Play Fees and a brief summary of each membership level's entitlement here

CONDITIONS OF ENTRY:

  • Entries received after Thursday 4th December, if accepted, will require additional £10 late entry fee.
  • Entries received after 21:00 Friday 5th December, if accepted, will require additional £20 Late fee.
  • No entries will be accepted on the day of the event.
  • A player may withdraw at any point up to close of early bird entry, Thursday, 4 December subject to a £10 administration fee. Withdrawal after this date forfeits the full entry fee.
  • Pairings

  • In all sections players will be paired using Swiss-Manager. Pairings will be posted at https://chess-results.com (see above for link) and at the venue. No discussion will be entered into concerning the pairings.
  • Nobody gets knocked out and players are expected to play all rounds.
  • If a player needs to leave early, please inform the controllers prior to leaving or upon your arrival if possible.
  • Scoring:

    1 point for a win, ½ for a draw or 0 for a loss.

    How to Qualify for The London Junior Chess Championships:

    At this Wey Valley qualifying tournament, you will play six games during the day and no one will get knocked out.

    Under 8 – 4 points or more out of 6 qualifies for the final: 29-30 December.
    Under 10 Major – 4.5 points or more out of 6 qualifies for the final: 13-14 December.
    Under 10 Minor – 3.5 or 4 points out of 6 qualifies for the final: 13-14 December.
    Under 12 Major – 4.5 points or more out of 6 qualifies for the final: 28-30 December.
    Under 12 Minor – 3.5 or 4 points out of 6 qualifies for the final: 28-30 December.
    U14 – no qualification needed (Final 13-14 December).
    U16 – no qualification needed (Final 28-30 December).
    U18/ U21 – no qualification needed (Final 28-30 December).
    Players who qualify for a Major event may not play in the corresponding Minor event.

    Time Control:

    In all sections there will be 6 rounds played with digital clocks on all boards.  Clocks will be at a rate of all moves in 20 minutes plus 5 second increments per move per player.

    Default Time:

  • 10 minutes.
  • If your opponent has not arrived within 10 minutes of the start of a round, they will be defaulted (awarded zero-point) and you should report to the arbiter for taking a one-point bye or for re-pairing as feasible for the round.
  • Rating

  • Players' ratings will be determined by using (in order) ECF Rapid/ ECF Standard/ FIDE Rapid/ FIDE Standard.
  • Unrated players must provide evidence for the organisers to assess their playing strength and any previous known rating must be declared (players who have never been rated do not need to).
  • If possible, the most up to date Rating List will be used to determine a player's rating. For players who do not appear in the November List, other lists may be used at the discretion of the organisers.
  • Rating Information - It is a condition of entry that players agree to their rating information being published on FIDE and the ECF websites.
  • Attention Parents:    Can you help?

    If you can volunteer to help in the playing hall during play on the day then please email us at: Admin@ChessEntriesforAll.com one does not need any specific chess knowledge for this as an arbiter will be there, one will only need to take results of a section.

    Photography and Live Broadcast Information (Junior Players)

    During the tournament, photographs may be taken to create a photo gallery and may also be used by the Organiser for use on social media platforms. If live DGT boards are used, players should be aware that their games may be broadcast online.

    By entering the tournament, players and their parents/guardians agree to these conditions. Photos in the playing hall are only allowed during the first five minutes of each round. If using a mobile phone to take pictures, it must be kept in flight mode at all times.

    If a player or parent/guardian does not wish for the player to be photographed, please inform the Organiser before the tournament begins.

    Behaviour, Parental Supervision & Disclaimers

    We kindly ask all attendees to treat the venue with respect and to follow any posted signs and instructions.

    A high standard of behaviour is expected at all times. Players should be quiet and considerate when entering or leaving the Playing Hall while games are in progress.

    Smoking, vaping (including e-cigarettes), and alcohol consumption are strictly prohibited within the grounds.

    Please note that Organisers and Arbiters cannot act in loco parentis. Parents, guardians, or carers are responsible for their children throughout the event.

  • Children under 8 must remain under direct parental supervision at all times.
  • Children aged 8 - 13 may be supervised collectively by trusted adults, but parents/guardians remain ultimately responsible for their child’s safety and behaviour.
  • Children aged 14–18 may remain at the venue without direct supervision. However, parents/guardians are still responsible for their behaviour and welfare during the event.
  • The organiser accepts no liability for any damage, theft, or accidents involving persons or property during the event. We are also not responsible for the actions of other attendees.

    GDPR Notice

    Personal data is collected solely for the administration of this event and to keep you informed about future chess activities. Some data may be shared with the English Chess Federation and FIDE for rating purposes. Results, ratings, and photographs may be used on social media or in promotional materials unless you inform us otherwise.

    Other Information

  • No player may win more than one prize.
  • Contact details will be stored on a computer for sending out details of future events organised by www.chessentriesforall.com.
  • Free Parking at the school in a large car park to the front and rear of the school.
  • All electronic devices including (but not limited to) mobile phones, fitbits, smart watches, earbuds, alarms, etc. must be turned off (not on silent/ vibrate) and not on your person during play. Please leave them with your parents as anybody found to have any electronic device on their person (even if it is switched off) will lose the game by default.
  • Refreshments, unfortunately, there will be no refreshments available at the venue, however, there are many facilities in the area; a petrol station opposite the school with coffee shops and a Waitrose a two minute drive/ 10-15 minute walk into the town centre. Alternatively, you may bring a packed lunch, but please ensure you keep food out of the playing hall.
  • Do not bring any NUTs onto the premises.
  • A day or two before the event we will email all entrants players details and other useful information, please check your child's details are correct and let us know of any errors or emissions. We will also include a map of the venue which will help you find the gym (playing hall) and dining hall (parents' waiting area)
  • In all disputes the decision of the arbiter is final.

    Fair Play & Anti-Cheating Policy

    This event is committed to fair play and follows the English Chess Federation’s Anti-Cheating Guidelines. All players are expected to compete honestly and uphold the integrity of the game.

    Cheating of any kind—including the use of electronic devices, outside assistance, or software—is strictly prohibited. The Organisers reserve the right to take appropriate action if fair play violations are suspected.
