Sections may be merged or split depending on the number of entries.

Time control: 25 minutes per player. Default time 10 minutes

Games will be graded on the Chess Scotland Allegro Grading list

Entry Fee: £5 by midnight Wednesday 31st January and £8 thereafter

The organisers reserve the right to decline/cancel entry

Half Day Taster (P7 & Under)

As well as the full day events, Lothian Junior Chess are also running a 'Taster Tournament'. This will be a miniature version of the main event, with just three rounds of games from 1pm. This is targeted at younger children and those who feel that to start straight into a six round event might be too big a first step. Entry for the taster is limited to P7 and Under, and the players should not yet have a grading and have played in less than two of our events Click here to enter the Taster Tournament

Refreshments

We expect refreshments, including hot and cold drinks, soup, rolls, home-baking, fruit, crisps etc to be available at a fundraising cafe run by the Broughton Association. There are also shops and cafes in Stockbridge and Comely Bank. We expect to have an extended break between rounds 3 and 4 for lunch

Supervision

Players are only supervised whilst in the playing hall and therefore Lothian Junior Chess events are not drop off events. Parents/carers are responsible for their children between games and are therefore expected to stay on-site or make a private arrangement for the supervision of their children. For this event there is a spacious waiting area for parents

Venue specific rules

The whole of the school premises is a non-smoking area, and smoking or vaping is not permitted. This includes the car park areas.

Pets are not allowed in the grounds with the exception of service dogs

Lothian Junior Chess offers free entry to their tournaments to players who are entitled to free school meals because their family is on a low income. If this applies to you, please enter using the entry form but do not pay. Instead please send us a message using the contact tab.
